A Brief Backstory
I grew up in Orland Park, Illinois—a suburb that boasts attractions such as every chain restaurant that offers BOGO deals and the cleanest mall in a 10-mile radius. I enjoyed playing games, adventuring, and acting out Power Rangers
scenes with my sister. I took the long trek from northern Illinois to central Illinois and graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Interactive Media. After graduating I moved to North Carolina and worked as an assistant at a magazine company. Soon I returned to school and gained an additional degree in Video Game Development to enhance my knowledge of the industry. Next I worked at a book publisher and then designed apps for a kid's media company. I currently work at Nintendo as a Creative Services Specialist. What does the future hold? Well, I want to make a positive impact on the world, or at least someone. I want to travel all over the world. I recently visited Japan and hope to visit Europe soon. As a thrill-seeker, I want to partake in some extreme activities such as skydiving and outside-the-gym rock climbing.
A Glimpse at My Past
When I was younger I enjoyed watching The Weather Channel. My favorite segment wasn't Local on the 8s
or Tornado Road
—it was the top of the hour weather update because they played an extended music track. It was so good that I choreographed dances to it. Friends would come over to visit, and I was excited to show them my sweet stormin' moves, but they never came back...To this day, my grandma wishes I pursued a career in meteorology and when the weather segment comes on she says, "Katie, that should be you up there making it rain."
Video and board games, roller coasters, living life like an adventure, dancing, singing, storytelling, drawing, traveling to new places, meeting like-minded people, spending time with my family and friends, spending time alone to space out, beach time, basketball, softball, volleyball, making people laugh, teasing people after I learn their weakness, and crab rangoons.
I'll list the PC ones: licorice (blech), lima beans (you bring joy to no one, you sad beans), people that get edamame at sushi restaurants (I will buy you a freezer bag and steam it for you), snoring (ask me about the time I almost smothered my dad with a sock as a kid), whistling to every song on a 3-hour road trip (and of course, it was Country), people tethered to technology.
